An Interview with Dagmar Hintzenberg-Freisleben - 2008 World Challenge Champion
Envisage the euphoria that a breeder, owner and handler experiences when they win top honours at one of the world's most prestigious and impressive events. The Eukanuba World Challenge Champion 2008 title was bestowed upon Dagmar's homebred Saluki "Dakira Sawahin" by FCI President and all breed judge, Hans Muller. This created jubilant emotion for winner, Dakira's breeder, owner and handler, in front of an appreciative live audience and the TV crew filming the event. While Dagmar and Dakira were still in the show ring, the exhilarating news had already swept the world, having been posted on the Saluki Internet chat lists.
When Dagmar set out from home to travel to Long Beach for the Eukanuba World Challenge, did she ever consider that she would "make her dream come true"? "When I was in the ring during the section judging, I was exhilarated when Raphael De Santiago selected Dakira as one of his three finalists. I thought maybe the dream could come true; maybe we could win this. Then I realised I would be competing with some of the world's top dogs in the final. The highly coveted Sealyham representing the USA, had won Best In Show at the World Dog Show in Sweden, he had won Best in Show at the AKC / Eukanuba National Championships plus many other high-profile shows. The multi BIS winning Standard Poodle from England, the Top winning Toy poodle from Japan; all the poodles looked very glamorous and were groomed to perfection. It is very hard competing against these dogs". Undeterred, Dagmar and Dakira gave the performance of their lives, effortlessly and gracefully gaiting around the ring to justly claim their crown, the Eukanuba World Challenge Champion 2008 title. Dagmar gleamed with pride, "I got it. I made a dream come true."
